Are you talking about me? Tall, skinny, bright red Joy Division shirt?

omg was that you? It may have possibly been you, from the likes of it. I don't know if it was a joy division shirt, but it was def red (you were "red shirt" to me last night).

Fab! I love the way you dance! I was watching you from the upper level for a bit.

And thanks to the tall girl in glasses who was giving the guy wearing a kilt a lap dance. That was something to watch too :-P

I was dancing almost the entire time I was there, and I was the only one doing it wearing a bright red shirt, so yeah, I think that was me. :)

Nice party, loud music, nametags, whatever.

Tim (and Leslie) got to see one of my pet rats again, Sidd.

Nice to see new folks. Er, not lurkers. They've been in Tribe a while now, but it's been so long since the last party, that
I can't really call them lurkers.
We talked and they had NOT been lurking.

Werd. SO many people I hadn't seen in 1 year+! Great conversations were had, although I am now hoarse fue to the volume of shouting that was necessary to be heard over the DJ's. (what was that someone was saying about live music being too loud for a party like this, therefore DJ's?)

I had a blast! Thanks for the great party! I met so many people I've been wanting to for so long! And I got to see friends I love dearly but have been out of touch with. But now I'm back in the Bay Area for the weekends. Time to make up for lost time!!! Wahoo!

      >"I am now hoarse fue to the volume of shouting that was necessary to be heard over the DJ's."

Sorry for the excessively loud music. I was not very familiar with their sound setup and we were trying to get a decent mix throughout the club, I figured I would leave it up to the DJ's to keep it mellow (and told them not to get too loud...) But certain nameless DJ's felt they had to push the envelope and crank it up a bit with NIN... I think the people dancing were driving the music mostly.

Whew! Glad I didn't play any NIN.

Another thing to keep in mind is that up on that stage, the DJ has very loud monitors facing them (and were told that the stage is much louder than the rest of the club), so we really couldn't tell what the sound was like elsewhere. Don't be afraid to approach a DJ and tell them the levels are too high. Since we can't necessarily tell what the sound is like on the floor, we're generally happy to hear from people about that (read: we're not as grouchy as we look).

Here's my write-up on DJing at the reboot party:

this is interesting to hear, because when I complained about the noise level to the folks I was (trying) to chat with, they basically smirked and told me that I'd be laughed off the stage by any DJ who got a request to not play so loud.

We both played NIN, I believe.

            And for once I didn't.

I wasn't sure what the balance was set at. I tired to keep the mixer in the yellow instead of hammering the red. I also couldn't tell how loud it was out there, tried to keep it down.

<(what was that someone was saying about live music being too loud for a party like this, therefore DJ's?)>

i think i made the comment you're referring to--but you're mis-quoting me, actually. it wasn't a matter of VOLUME i was referring to, but being able to be background easier than bands. volume can be equally abused by djs OR bands. by the time i got on most folk had scooted off, but i generally try to keep the levels considerate...

i do have to agree about the "intimidation factor"--i only tell djs i know to turn down.

Anytime I'm spinning if it's too loud, lemme know. Most the time I have people telling me to turn it up.

I tend to rarely use a monitor, prefering to mix in headphone, so room volume isn't a factor for me. I defer to the peopel being subjected rather than what volume i THINK they should listen at.

Most places I spin have a dedicated system that's dialed in, so I just use the level mters to guage teh reletive volume, didn't have that but we made do. If we use that venue again I'll try to get there early and do a sound check to lock in the volume so we have the meters to guage with.
