Wed, October 4, 2006 - 4:52 PMwe have lap tops set up for people at all of our tribe get togethers...and they're just tiny not at all official functions. Seems like a big fancy tribe sponsored event should have some way for people to check on their tribes and blog about the fun stuff going on. -

Re: I hereby demand entry.
Thu, October 5, 2006 - 3:03 AMI used to be a super high speed mobile "access point" back in the Army. In the middle of the woods, desert, snow, whereever on the planet I had fast access, (it took a minimum of two to four HMWWV's of course :) ) I also had a more portable version I could hike with but it was only the equivilent of a couple of T-1 circuits.
Now it is neat to have something in my pocket that gives me nearly a T-1 worth of bandwidth. Gotta love portability.
Now I agree with the point of there probably does not need to be any computers there. We are going there to socialize. Why could be so important that we have to log into tribe to check that we can not do when we get home? The whole point of the gathering as Brian has made clear is to meet each other face to face and talk (it is when you open your ears and mouth and say and listen to things.) Human interaction on a different level.... The physical level. No computer to hide behind. I think that it is really neat that DNA has terminals throughout that you can check your email, however I personally believe in going out to get away from all of this stuff, I work with computers all day, I really do not like to use them at home as it is. Now once in a while the need does arrive to work on things remotely and then being able to comes in handy, but I rarely do it myself. -

1. some of us will be traveling TO sf.
2. some of us have friends who cannot make it for locational/scheduling/other reasons, but don't want to be left out
3. some of us just LOVE TRIBING!!!
i personally love face-to-face meetings, anyone who knows me will say so, but some people are ether-friends for various reasons and frankly sometimes i FORGET if i don't "do it now." -

Ok, I will give you travelling to SF. After a long trip wanting to check email, etc.
Friends who can not make it? I would think that they can wait till after the event.
Addicts. Ok, you got me there.
You know it is a sad state we are in today. I have started observing this more and more these days. People are starting to get so attached to technology these days. Something I have been noticing are all of the kids running around the clubs with their Sidekicks texting each other, blogging, etc. Why go to a club to sit in a corner and not talk to anybody? I remember when I used to go away for the weekend and not even see a computer (barely a phone) for the whole time. We spent time with each other. And then when we got home on Monday would write something about it, talk to (tell) people about what happened and share the communication aspect of it.
What happened to human interaction? I was under the impression that the whole point of the Tribe get together was so we could see each other and chat. I remember the last one I went to, back at the Rickshaw was really cool (there were not any computers that I recall seeing there.) I met up with a bunch of people that I had seen online but never met because we were in different circles. I think this could be a really neat experience since there will probably be a lot of people there that do not go to the other events I go to, and vice versa. It gives us a chance to bond physically. (Not that way!) I keep wondering where we will be in x number of years from now when people do nothing but sit behind their computers and never leave their houses. (Like some people that are here now.)
T-Bird, this was not in any way meant as an attack or anything towards you. Just an observation that I have been seeing and meaning to write about anyway and I just wrote something now. Definately say hi on Tuesday night.
See ya'll then! -

EXACTLY!
I love putting real faces to the avatars and talking in person as opposed to PM, making that friendship leap. Dont get me wrong I am a tech nut, I carry a treo so that I can stay connected but I know when to leave it in my pocket

Thu, October 5, 2006 - 8:29 PM<~~~ addict
But isn't that good for tribe? Maybe bad for our lives when we partake to much but good for tribe. Encourage the addiction! and anyone who is not a true addict yet and doesn't feel a need to check for PMs or comments on their blog or that one tribe with the big discussion going on...well they don't have to stand in line for a computer. YAY more for us!
Besides you guys are being way to serious, I'm to old to have anyone telling me how much computer time is too much unless I'm getting paid to be somewhere or do something else.
